Pushing the boundaries of what's possible up to 40 feet...
The brand-new Hallberg-Rassy 40C pushes the boundaries of what's possible in a yacht up to 40 feet. When the Hallberg-Rassy 44 was introduced, it was a bold step forward in terms of interior comfort, sailing performance, and appearance. The new 40C is equally good when it comes to the saloon, aft cabin, and galley. Combined with a cockpit that has the exact same dimensions as the Hallberg-Rassy 44 and fantastic sailing performance, success is guaranteed!
A large or a huge galley?
There are two galleys available: a large or a huge one. The huge galley option gives you a larger countertop, more storage space, and an additional front-opening refrigerator. With this galley, it's also possible to add a dishwasher and microwave. Choosing the second-largest galley gives you more space in the cockpit locker. Both galleys are seagoing and do not obstruct the passage to the aft cabin.
Aft cabin with two separate berths or center sleeper
The aft cabin also offers two different options: The standard configuration is a double bed and a single bed with a comfortable seat in between. A spacious center sleeper version is available as an option, with a bench seat to port and a make-up table to starboard. This version can easily be combined with a stern thruster, making maneuvering the boat a breeze, even in challenging upwind and downwind situations. Both aft cabin versions feature two spacious lockers on the aft deck.
Interior in traditional mahogany or light oak
The interior is available in traditional African khaya mahogany or, optionally, in light-colored European oak. In both cases, the wood grain is horizontal. Retractable entrance hatches with gas struts are available as an option.
Bright interior
The interior is spacious, bright, and offers a feeling of space. The cabin features multiple deck hatches that provide ample natural light, as well as plenty of indirect LED lighting and ample ventilation. There are six hull windows, the same size as on the 64, 57, and 44!
A design that is both classic and modern
The exterior elegantly combines two worlds. There's no doubt that this is a contemporary boat from 2020, yet it's clear to every sailor that this is also a true Hallberg-Rassy, where brand identity, safety, and continuity are paramount.
The bow is straight for a long waterline and improved sailing performance, with an elegant bowsprit for a gennaker or code zero, an integrated anchor, and the option to install a bow ladder. The transom is also straight and voluminous, offering ample living space and a huge amount of storage space. Naturally, the boat has dual rudders for complete control and safety.
Needless to say, typical Hallberg-Rassy solutions have been chosen, including: a very sheltered cockpit with a fixed windscreen and an integrated and protective polyester rubbing strake. A heavy lead keel with a low center of gravity is mounted on a deep bilge for tough conditions. Deck ducts allow rain and spray to drain below the waterline, preventing unsightly streaks on the hull.
Modern Rigging
The rigging is modern and easy to handle. The headsail has a slight overlap, making tacking very easy. There is also an option for a self-tacking jib. The forestay furler has a drum below the deck. A light-weather sail can be set on the integral and elegant bowsprit. The main and middle shrouds are separated on deck, making it easy to pass the shrouds—a Hallberg-Rassy invention. The headsail is easily trimmable, and the mast is trimmed with considerable compression, ensuring a stable rig. The boat features a standard 1:48 ratio backstay, making it easy to adjust the tension.
Spacious cockpit with hardtop option
This new model can be ordered with the traditional fixed windshield with a retractable sprayhood or with a robust hardtop dodger. Both solutions feature tempered glass windows, an opening center section, and side handles. The hardtop offers excellent protection from the elements—wind, cold, rain, and sun. It is durable and also provides good sound insulation when sailing in rough weather. The cockpit is just as large as the spacious Hallberg-Rassy 44. The helmsman's position is slightly raised, maintaining good forward visibility and providing valuable extra headroom in the aft cabin. The cockpit benches are long and deep, benefiting both external seating comfort and interior volume. Underdeck louvers run along the starboard side of the cockpit coaming.
